These creatures create a sense of the serene and other worldly in their spectators. Why else would people spend days on a whale sighting expedition to notoriously be left with no whales to be seen again and again?

It seems that whales imbue that idea of freedom from the corruption of the world since they are so removed from us. However, even they can’t escape the volatility that is changing their surroundings. Whether the climate crisis is man made or otherwise, these creatures deserve to be protected from harm- as we did when we made whaling illegal. We deserve to have something that can be inviolable in our world, to look at and imagine that it’s possible.
